Bio: Cheryl Hewett, HP Education Market Development Manager
BS Education Curriculum and Instruction, Texas A&M UniversityMBA, University of Utah

Cheryl has over 20 years of experience within the Education Space. Her initial work began as a classroom teacher, teaching Physics and Algebra II. She also worked as a program evaluator for the US Department of Energy, evaluating the department’s K12 outreach programs. Cheryl then served as the Deputy Program Manager of the NASA Jove program, funding NASA research at small colleges and universities throughout the US and Puerto Rico. She has most recently worked at HP covering the public sector segment for the past nine years. Seven of those years have been dedicated to furthering HP’s impact on the US and Worldwide Education Market.

Pamela Livingston has spent the past fifteen years administering technology education in schools, most recently as the Head of Technology at the Peck School in Morristown, NJ. The author of ISTE’s bestseller "1-to-1 Learning: Laptop Programs That Work", Pamela wrote the book by spending over a year interviewing laptop leaders around the U.S., synthesizing research and studies on 1-to-1, and documenting her experience running a laptop program. Pamela has also written for “Learning & Leading with Technology”, “Connected Classroom”, and “Technology & Learning.”

A frequent presenter and keynote at national conferences such as NECC, Lausanne Collegiate's Laptop Institute, South Dakota's Laptop Conference, and Penn State’s One-to-One Conference, Pamela delivers workshops, and conducts evaluations for U.S. and international schools and districts. She also consults for Learning Sciences, Inc. as their 21st Century Learning Expert, creating professional development materials for Pennsylvania’s Classrooms for the Future. Pamela holds a B.S. in computer systems from CUNY and an M.S. in education and technology from Chestnut Hill College.

"Chris Braswell knows he can't defeat public opinion. No matter what happens over the next five months, whether the 6-foot-8 Georgetown recruit either shows up on campus in the fall or returns to a prep school, Braswell is still going to feel skeptical eyes on him -- on the basketball court, in the classroom and in cyberspace.

The end of a curious high school career could come today for Braswell when he suits up for the Capital All-Stars in the Capital Classic at Comcast Center. The player once dubbed the Washington area's next great big man orally committed to the Hoyas in October 2006, but it's far from certain when he will suit up.

Braswell repeated the eighth grade at Andrew Jackson Middle School in Forestville. Then, he spent his freshman year at Suitland dogged by rumors of poor grades and attendance. He spent the next two years at DeMatha, but he missed the final six weeks of his second season there without any explanation. He's spending this year at Hargrave Military Academy, a landing spot for athletes hoping the strict environment will help them improve their grades and gain initial NCAA eligibility. " Read More

Live with David Flink : Eye to Eye

David Flink is the Executive Director and Co-Founder of Project Eye-To-Eye. Project Eye-To-Eye is a national mentoring program that matches college and high school students with LD/ADHD, acting as tutors, role models and mentors, with elementary, middle, and high school students with LD/ADHD in order to empower these students and help them find success. Like many who are eventually diagnosed with dyslexia, David Flink’s first exposure to the treatment of this learning difference was on the cold linoleum floor outside is 5th grade classroom.
He existed for a year in this reading group of one where his teachers, although often well intentioned, did not teach David fundamental reading skills but instead, shame. Though struggling through much of his pre-college education, David eventually found success in school and once attending Brown University decided he needed to transcend his past experiences and attempt to empower others who might be encountering similar difficulty in school. Hence, he became one of the founding creators of Project Eye-To-Eye.

In addition to his work in Project Eye-To-Eye, he also received a double degree in Education and Psychology from Brown University and graduated with honors. The Orton Gillingham Society has recognized his Honors Thesis on the Treatment of Dyslexia through Multisensory Learning and David has lectured at Brown University , Dartmouth College , Vassar College , Columbia University , Reed College , and numerous conferences for organizations including the International Dyslexia Association.

David has served as an Admissions Officer for Brown University , where he evaluated over 4,000 applications, and was the Disability Admissions Liaison at Brown University , reviewing all applications of those who apply to Brown with disabilities.

RTI Action Network Online Monday

On Monday April 7th, The National Center for Learning Disabilities (NCLD) and founding partner the International Reading Association (IRA) are launching a new national initiative dedicated to the responsible and effective implementation of Response-to-Intervention (RTI), the RTI Action Network.

NCLD has taken the lead developing the social network and secured funding from the Cisco Systems Foundation.

The RTI Action Network will involve teachers, administrators, specialists, and parents that will focus on four important elements: research, extensive information resources, effective professional development, and mentoring of those responsible for implementing RTI.

The guiding vision of the RTI Action Network is systemic education reform ensuring that all children have access to high quality instruction and learning opportunities, and that struggling learners – including those with learning disabilities – are identified, supported, and served early and effectively so that all children succeed in school. - RTI Action Network Program Summary
